About

“Questions are tricky, and some hold on tight,
and this one kept Rosie awake through the night.”
– Rosie Revere, Engineer

I’ve always loved how books can help us answer some of the biggest questions in life. From when we first start asking “why” as we discover the world around us, books can help enlighten and inspire us in a myriad of ways. I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember, and now I love helping others discover their own love of reading. Thank you for visiting Miss Magee’s Reads, where I will share the books that help my students learn and the books that make sure I never stop learning.

About Me

ProfilePicture - 2015

My name is Lorraine Brontë Magee, and I’m an elementary school educator. After teaching 5th grade and 3rd grade during my student teaching year at American University, I moved from Washington, DC to my hometown of Natick, Massachusetts. I’m now teaching 3rd grade in the very same classroom where I went to 3rd grade, and I’m loving every moment. My favorite types of books are the ones that ask big questions, so I absolutely love young adult literature and books for older elementary students. Some of my favorites include Brian Selznick’s Wonderstruck and Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden. I’m looking forward to rediscovering books for our young readers as I continue on this journey of teaching third grade. I can’t wait to share my discoveries with all of you! Thank you so much for reading.

My Goals for Miss Magee’s Reads

MissMagee's

  • I want to discover books that empower both girls and boys. I love strong female characters of all ages, and those are the type of characters that little girls need to read about. As a teacher, I also recognize how important it is to find books that can empower boys with interest in reading, and I’m looking forward to finding those as I read.
  • I want to think deeply about how we can use books to change the world. Whenever I read a children’s book, I want to keep my mind on how I can use it in the classroom. How can I use a book to get a child to where they need to be, or where they want to be?
  • I want to remember to read for fun sometimes, too. That’s why I’ll be sharing some “Books for Grown-Ups” on this blog as well. My favorite genres are historical fiction and fascinating nonfiction – look out for those!
